Village Arts VB. Art Changing Lives. "Embrace. Engage. Elevate"

Researching our upcoming feature article on the visual arts in Vero Beach--appearing in the September issue--I stumbled across a single family-style home in historic Edgewood neighborhood. It has a colorful banner and art pieces on the porch. Very interesting!

I knocked on the door and was greeted by

Chrissy Barry, Executive Director. She invited me to enter. Whereupon I discovered an art class in session. Introductions went around the table. A quick tour of rooms to look at completed art.

Chrissy briefed me on what Village Arts VB is all about. I was/am so impressed by its mission and calling. And I'm so grateful for having discovering them. I left humbled by the Greater Good that people can accomplish in this world--helping others, being kind to others, appreciating them, providing a space for personal expression and freedom.

Chrissy provided my with this description:

Village Arts VB, Inc. is a 501(c)3 entity with a unique mission promoting self-sufficiency skills and community integration for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through art-making and marketing. Our approach is distinct, as we embrace adults with developmental disabilities and engage them after they have aged-out of traditional services with limited resources or programs available to them.

The Village Arts vision is to create a community where differently-abled adults are valued for their unique gifts, and our program is designed to elevate the lives of those it impacts through increasing daily functioning and skills in an innovative program with creative activities. Our focus is on promoting and elevating self-sufficiency, confidence, self-esteem, and interactional skills that naturally develop with our participants.

Each member plays a crucial role through their creative abilities and practical community service contributions in art shows, local markets, and collaborative community enhancement initiatives, making our organization genuinely exceptional.
